The Supreme Court

has asserted that it is a constitutional right for women employees to grant two years of childcare leave in addition to the mandatory maternity leave of 180 days.

According to the 2019 India Time Use Survey, men in India spend just 173 minutes on unpaid household and care work, compared to 433 minutes spent by women.
