ADB GDP Growth Projections for India

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) in its Asian Development Outlook April 2026 report projected that India’s GDP growth will be 6.9% in FY2026 and is expected to increase to 7.3% in FY2027, driven by strong domestic demand. The report also noted that a prolonged West Asia conflict could impact India’s macroeconomic performance.

Swiggy Co-founder Lakshmi Nandan Reddy Resigns

Lakshmi Nandan Reddy, co-founder of Swiggy, resigned from the food and grocery delivery company with immediate effect, as stated in a stock exchange filing. The company noted that the resignation is due to his decision to pursue other professional interests. Swiggy was founded by Lakshmi Nandan Reddy, Sriharsha Majety, and Rahul Jaimini.

Apple Leads Global Smartphone Shipments in Q1 2026

In the first quarter of 2026, Apple emerged as the global leader in smartphone shipments with a 21% market share, marking the first time it has led in a first quarter, according to Counterpoint Research. Despite a 6% decline in overall global smartphone shipments due to memory component shortages and Middle East tensions, Apple recorded a 5% year-on-year growth. The company also saw a 23% increase in smartphone sales in China during the first nine weeks of 2026. Meanwhile, Samsung recorded a 6% decline in shipments with a 20% market share, and Xiaomi retained the third position with 13% market share, though it experienced the highest decline among the top five brands.

Gaganyaan IADT-02 Test Conducted by ISRO

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully conducted the second Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-02) for the Gaganyaan mission at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The test is aimed at ensuring the safe recovery of the crew module, which carries astronauts, during re-entry and landing.

E-way Bills Reach Record Level in March 2026

India’s E-way bills, required for movement of goods within and across states, crossed 140.6 million in March 2026, marking the highest level since the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in July 2017. The number of E-way bills increased by 6% compared to the previous month and 12% year-on-year, according to government data. The rise is associated with financial year-end inventory clearance, which typically leads to higher GST collections in April. In April 2025, the net GST collection of central and state governments was ₹2.09 trillion. In March 2026, the combined GST revenue receipts of central and state governments increased by 8.2% year-on-year to ₹1.78 trillion after refunds, while in FY2026, the net GST collection rose by 7.1% to ₹19.35 trillion. Additionally, automobile sales increased by 25% year-on-year to 2.69 million vehicles in March 2026, as per data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA).

Vice President Releases Sindhi Version of Constitution of India

The Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, released the Sindhi language version of the Constitution of India on April 10 in New Delhi on the occasion of Sindhi Language Day. The new edition has been prepared in Devanagari and Persian scripts, and its release marks a significant milestone in promoting linguistic recognition, especially as it is the first time since Independence that the Sindhi version has been published in Devanagari script. The Constitution of India is also available in several other languages including Tamil, Gujarati, Bodo, Dogri, Santali, and Nepali.

President Assents to CAPF General Administration Bill 2026

President Droupadi Murmu granted assent to the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) General Administration Bill, 2026 on April 10, and the Central Government issued the notification. The law provides a unified framework to regulate recruitment, deputation, promotion, and service conditions of officers in CAPF, including CRPF, CISF, BSF, and ITBP, replacing separate laws of individual forces; the Bill was recently passed in Parliament. It allows appointment of IPS officers on deputation for 50% of posts at the Inspector General (IG) level and 67% at the Additional Director General (ADG) level, as well as at Special Director General and Director General positions. The move follows a Supreme Court ruling directing a gradual reduction of IPS deputation in CAPFs, and the Central Government’s review petition was rejected before introducing this legislation.

Election Commission Appoints New Chennai Police Commissioner

The Election Commission of India ordered the transfer of Chennai Police Commissioner Arun and appointed Abhin Dinesh Modak as the new Chennai Police Commissioner, who assumed charge immediately. The decision comes ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled on April 23, as part of measures to ensure neutral and peaceful conduct of elections. In this context, several IAS and IPS officers have been transferred, including SPs of 8 districts such as Virudhunagar, Namakkal, and Karur. Earlier, Chief Secretary Muruganandam was replaced by Sai Kumar, and DGP (Law & Order) G. Venkataraman was replaced by Sandeep Rai Rathore. Abhin Dinesh Modak, who was serving as Additional DGP of the Enforcement Division (Prohibition Enforcement and Narcotics Intelligence Bureau), has now been appointed as the new Commissioner.

IIT Madras Recommendations on Renewable Energy Targets

IIT Madras recommended increasing renewable energy investments and improving power distribution and energy storage infrastructure to achieve the goals of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28). The study, based on global energy data, highlighted that between 2014 and 2023, global renewable energy capacity grew by 128% to 3,869.7 GW, while its share in global energy consumption remains only 14.56%. It noted that fossil fuels still account for over 81% of global energy demand and contribute to more than 95% of carbon emissions. The study stated that under current growth rates, renewable energy may not match fossil fuels by 2050, and higher investments are required to achieve this by the late 2040s. India aims to achieve 485 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030. The study emphasized the need for policy reforms, development of modern power distribution systems, and adoption of technologies such as carbon capture, energy storage solutions, and green hydrogen.

Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Birth Anniversary

Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, a social reformer, was born in 1827 in Maharashtra, and his 200th birth anniversary celebrations commenced on April 11. He played a key role in promoting education for women and the underprivileged and worked towards social equality and upliftment of marginalized sections. He founded the Satyashodhak Samaj, an important social reform movement in modern India, which focused on social justice, community service, and human dignity. His wife, Savitribai Phule, was also a reformer and educator, who contributed to women’s education and continued his work after his death; she died in 1897 during the plague while serving affected people.

Jaishankar Meets Mauritius Leaders During IORA Meeting

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Mauritius President Dharambir Gokool on April 10 in Port Louis during his visit to attend the 9th Council of Ministers meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA). During the meeting, he conveyed greetings on behalf of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also held discussions with Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam and senior ministers, and met former Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, leader of the MSM party. Additionally, Jaishankar held separate meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Nepal, Bhutan, and Seychelles on bilateral issues. After concluding his visit, he is scheduled to travel to the United Arab Emirates.

Min Aung Hlaing Sworn in as President of Myanmar

Min Aung Hlaing, head of the Myanmar military junta, was sworn in as the President of Myanmar in Naypyidaw on Friday, marking the continuation of his rule through a civilian post five years after the military coup in 2021. As the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, he had removed the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021, detaining the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and leading to a civil war. He has now begun his five-year presidential term after taking the oath in the capital.

Vishwanath Suresh Wins Gold at Asian Boxing Championship

At the Asian Boxing Championship held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, India’s Vishwanath Suresh won the gold medal in the 50 kg category by defeating Japan’s Daichi Iwai with a 5-0 score in the final. Sachin secured the silver medal in the 60 kg category after losing 2-3 to Kazakhstan’s Achukovsky. In the men’s category, India won 6 medals (5 gold, 1 silver), while in the women’s category, India had already secured 4 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Overall, India finished 2nd in the medal tally with a total of 16 medals (9 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze).

Meenakshi Goyat Wins Silver at Asian Wrestling Championship

At the Asian Wrestling Championship held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, India’s Meenakshi Goyat won the silver medal in the women’s 53 kg category, losing 0-10 to China’s Jin Zhang in the final. In the bronze medal rounds, Monika won 9-0 against South Korea’s Hanbit Lee in the 65 kg category, and Harshita secured a 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan’s Sevinchay Polvonova in the 72 kg category. In the men’s category, Sujeet (65 kg), Abhimanyu (70 kg), and Sandeep Mann (79 kg) advanced to the finals after winning their respective semifinals. India Defeats Mongolia 3-0 in Billie Jean King Cup

In the Billie Jean King Cup women’s tennis tournament, India secured a 3-0 victory against Mongolia in the Asia-Oceania Group 1 tie. Vingroup Signs ₹60,420 Crore MoU with Maharashtra Government

Vingroup, a Vietnam-based company, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra Government to invest ₹60,420 crore ($6.5 billion) in Maharashtra on April 10. The agreement includes development of integrated modern townships over 1,000 hectares in areas like Mumbai , with facilities such as residential, commercial, educational, and medical infrastructure at a cost of $5 billion. Additionally, the company plans to introduce 60,000 electric rental cars with an investment of $1.5 billion and invest in renewable energy and social infrastructure. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the state government will provide support for land and approvals, and the project is expected to generate large-scale employment opportunities over the next five years.

ISRO Conducts IADT-02 for Gaganyaan Mission

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) completed the second Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-02) for the Gaganyaan mission at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. In this test, a simulated crew module weighing 5.7 tonnes was carried to an altitude of 3 km by an Indian Air Force Chinook helicopter and released over the sea near the Sriharikota coast. During descent, 10 parachutes of four types were deployed in sequence to ensure safe landing, and the module was later recovered with the coordination of the Indian Navy. The test validated the parachute-based deceleration system of the crew module and is a key step towards the Gaganyaan G1 mission. The first Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-01) was conducted on August 24, 2025, and the mission involved support from the Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, and DRDO.

Anthropic Explores Development of AI Chips

The San Francisco-based AI company Anthropic is exploring the possibility of designing its own advanced chips to address the shortage of AI chips required for developing and running advanced artificial intelligence systems. The plan is currently in the early stages, and the company has not finalized any specific design or formed a dedicated team for the project. It may also decide to continue purchasing AI chips externally instead of developing its own.
