Sushila Karki becomes Nepal’s First Woman Prime Minister (Interim)
Nepal has made history by appointing Sushila Karki, former Chief Justice, as its first woman Prime Minister (Interim). Her appointment came after weeks of youth-led protests across the country over corruption, unemployment, and political inequality that forced the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and the dissolution of parliament.
Karki, respected for her anti-corruption stance and judicial integrity, has been tasked with leading the country until fresh parliamentary elections in March 2026. She has urged for national unity, pledged compensation for victims of unrest, and promised to restore stability.
