National Nutrition Week – September 1 to 7

National Nutrition Week is observed in India every year from September 1 to 7 to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition, healthy eating habits, and balanced diets for overall well-being. The week-long campaign, organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, emphasizes preventing malnutrition, improving maternal and child health, and promoting food security.

Started in 1982, the initiative highlights the critical role of nutrition in building a healthy nation. Every year, different themes are chosen to educate people through workshops, community programs, and awareness drives, focusing on the need to eat right for a healthier and stronger India.

👉 For 2025, the theme is “Eat Right for a Better Life”.

LIC Day – September 1

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the nation’s largest and most trusted insurance company, was established on September 1, 1956, after the merger of over 245 private insurance companies. Since then, September 1 is observed as LIC Day every year to celebrate its foundation.

The Headquarters of LIC is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The Government of India holds around 96.5% stake in LIC, making it the majority owner.

In May 2022, LIC launched its Initial Public Offering (IPO), which was India’s largest IPO at the time, raising over ₹21,000 crore. This marked a major step in LIC’s journey, bringing policyholders and investors into its ownership.

On LIC Day, the corporation highlights its role in financial security, creates awareness about life insurance, and renews its commitment to policyholders and nation-building through mobilizing savings and infrastructure investments.

Aanya & Angel pair clinches doubles title

The Indian pair of Aanya Bisht and Angel Punera clinched the girls' doubles title with a 21-23, 21-12, 21-17 upset win over the Japanese duo Aoi Banno and Yuzu Ueno at the Yonex Sunrise India Junior International Grand Prix badminton here on Sunday. There was further joy for India in mixed doubles as Vansh Dev and Shravani Walekar outplayed C. Lalramsanga and Taarini Suri 21-12, 21-13 to lift the crown. India crowned SAFF under-17 women’s football champion

India was on Sunday crowned champion of the SAFF under-17 women's football championship, despite suffering a 3-4 loss to Bangladesh in its last league match in Thimpu on Sunday. This was India's lone defeat in the tournament that was played among four countries in a double round-robin format. India topped the table with 15 points after six matches and thus was declared winner. It had secured the title even before Sunday's match after winning five on the trot.

Satwik/Chirag Duo Wins Bronze Medal

The Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the bronze medal at the BWF World Championships held in France.

The 9th-seeded Indian duo, who had advanced to the semifinals, lost to the 11th-seeded Chinese pair Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yi with the scores of 19-21, 21-18, 12-21. The match lasted for 1 hour and 7 minutes.

The Satwik/Chirag pair, who exited in the semifinals, were awarded the bronze medal. This is the second medal for the pair in the history of the tournament. This duo had previously won a bronze medal in 2022 as well.

Indian Army tests combat readiness in Arunachal

The Indian Army has conducted Exercise Yudh Kaushal 3.0 in the high-altitude Kameng region of Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing its preparedness for next-generation warfare in extreme Himalayan conditions.

Observed by the General Officer Commanding of Gajraj Corps, the exercise featured large-scale manoeuvres with drone surveillance, precision strikes, real-time target acquisition, air-littoral operations and synchronised battlefield tactics. According to the Army, a major highlight was the operational debut of the newly raised ASHNI platoons.

 Railway officials have announced that preparations are underway for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the new 52 km railway line in Mizoram, built at a cost of ₹8,000 crore, on the coming September 13th.

A new railway line has been constructed in the state of Mizoram from Bairabi to Sairang, covering a distance of 52 km, at a cost of ₹8,071 crore. The project, aimed at connecting the Mizoram capital, Aizawl, was initiated in 2014 with an initial estimate of ₹5,000 crore for the approximately 52 km stretch.

This railway line features 55 major bridges, 87 minor bridges, and 48 tunnels. Railway Zone Public Relations Officer Jayakumar provided these details.

Postal Services to the US Fully Suspended Until Further Notice

Due to a lack of clarity in the new regulations issued by the U.S. Customs Department, India Post has temporarily suspended all postal services to the United States until further notice.

Previously, following the new U.S. customs rules, India Post had only suspended postal services for gift items valued at over $100. However, a new announcement has now confirmed the complete suspension of bookings for all types of mail.

Following the announcement made on August 2nd, the postal department reviewed the suspension of mail bookings. Due to the absence of clear procedures for the new rules, airlines have not been accepting mail destined for the United States.

Consequently, the booking of all postal services, including letters, documents, and gift items valued below $100, has been completely halted.

The postal department has stated that it is continuously monitoring the situation and that all efforts are being made to resume services.

Indian NGO ‘Educate Girls’ Awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award

The Indian non-governmental organization 'Educate Girls' has been selected for the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award, as announced on Sunday.

With this, an Indian organization has created a historic achievement by winning this award for the first time.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award is considered Asia's equivalent of the Nobel Prize.

This award is presented annually to individuals and organizations in recognition of their selfless public service to the people of the Asian continent.

In a press release, the foundation stated that 'Educate Girls', an organization dedicated to providing education to girls who have dropped out of school and those who are out-of-school, has been selected for this year's award. The other recipients are Shaahina Ali from the Maldives (for environmental development) and Flaviano Antonio L. Villanueva from the Philippines (for improving the lives of the poor).
