Tamil Nadu Reconstitutes State Consumer Protection Council 2025

® Tamil Nadu government reconstituted the State Consumer Protection Council with the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies as Chairperson. ® The council comprises 22 members, including MPs and MLAs such as Vellore MP D.M. Kathir Anand and Thanjavur MP S. Murasoli. ® Key members include Secretaries of Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection Departments, Commissioner of Civil Supplies, Registrar of State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, and CMD of Tamil Nadu Generation Distribution Corporation Ltd.

Vaduvur Bird Sanctuary Declared Invasive-Free Ramsar Site

® The Department of Posts released a special cover on the invasive-free Vaduvur Bird Sanctuary in Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. ® Declared a Ramsar site in 2022, the sanctuary is home to around 118 bird species. ® Invasive plant species have been successfully removed, enhancing the ecological health of this wetland. ® The sanctuary is now recognized as invasive-free, supporting native biodiversity and wetland conservation efforts.

Dhanushkodi Declared as Greater Flamingo Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu

® On World Environment Day (June 5, 2025), Tamil Nadu declared Dhanushkodi in Ramanathapuram district as a Greater Flamingo Sanctuary. ® The sanctuary spans 524.7 hectares within the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve. ® It aims to protect migratory wetland birds along the Central Asian Flyway and support marine biodiversity. ® Inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, this marks a major step in wetland and bird conservation in South India
