Panchayati Raj Day

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj in India observes April 24 as National Panchayati Raj day each year. The 73rd Amendment Act of 1993 was enacted on this day. This year (2024) marks the 31st anniversary of National Panchayati Raj Day. The first national panchayat day was celebrated in 2010. On National Panchayati Raj Day, the government recognises the best-performing Panchayats across India. Rajasthan was the first state to implement Panchayati Raj in India on 2nd of Oct 1959 in the Nagaur district. It was followed by Andhra Pradesh which also implemented in the year 1959. Balwant Rai Mehta is known as the father of Panchayati Raj.

Theme – Read Your Way World Book and Copyright Day, designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), has been commemorated each year on April 23 since 1995.
