Indigenously Developed ‘Ugram’ Rifle Clears All Trials

The 'Ugram' 7.62 × 51 mm rifle, jointly developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Dvippa, a Hyderabad, Telangana-based startup, has successfully completed all quality trials conducted by the Indian Army and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The rifle was designed and developed indigenously within 100 days and is set to be procured for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and the National Security Guard (NSG). Dvippa, established in 2018 and licensed in 2021, has developed more than 100 firearm variants for the military and police. The Ugram rifle weighs less than 4 kg and has an effective firing range of 500 metres.
