SRO Launches GSAT-7R — India’s Heaviest Indigenous Communication Satellite
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved another milestone on Sunday by successfully launching the Indian Navy’s advanced communication satellite GSAT-7R (CMS-03) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
Weighing around 4,400 kilograms, GSAT-7R is India’s heaviest indigenously designed and developed communication satellite to date. The mission marks a major advancement in strengthening naval communication systems and enhancing maritime domain awareness through space-based assets.
The satellite was launched aboard ISRO’s most powerful rocket, the LVM3, as part of its M5 mission. The launch took place from the second launch pad, and the satellite was successfully placed into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). From there, it will use its on-board propulsion systems to move into its final circular orbit.
The Indian Navy stated that GSAT-7R, equipped with state-of-the-art indigenous technologies, will provide secure and resilient telecommunication coverage across the entire Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
Its advanced payload includes multi-band transponders that support voice, data, and video communications, ensuring seamless connectivity between ships, submarines, aircraft, and maritime operation centres.

Kane Williamson Announces Retirement from T20 Internationals
New Zealand’s cricketing legend Kane Williamson has announced his retirement from T20 Internationals, marking the end of a remarkable career in the shortest format of the game.
Williamson stated that his decision was driven by the need for team clarity and fresh direction ahead of next year’s ICC T20 World Cup.
Over the course of 93 T20Is, the 34-year-old amassed 2,575 runs at an average 33.44, of including 18 half-centuries, making him New Zealand’s second-highest run-scorer in the format.
As captain, he guided the Black Caps to the final of the 2021 T20 World Cup and semifinal appearances in 2016 and 2022, earning immense respect for his calm leadership and tactical brilliance.
Williamson recently stepped down as captain in both white-ball formats after signing a “casual” contract with New Zealand Cricket (NZC) — a move that signaled his shift towards a more flexible playing schedule.
Janice Tjen Makes History — Clinches Maiden WTA 250 Chennai Open Title for Indonesia
Indonesia’s Janice Tjen scripted history by winning her first-ever WTA 250 title at the Chennai Open Tennis Tournament held at the SDAT-Nungambakkam Stadium on Sunday.
The 23-year-old showcased remarkable consistency throughout the tournament and defeated Australia’s Kimberly Birrell in straight sets 6–4, 6–3, completing the match in two hours.

With this triumph, Tjen becomes the first Indonesian woman to win a WTA Tour title since Angelique Widjaja in 2002.
Reflecting on her achievement, Tjen said, “After the heartbreak of losing the Sao Paulo final, winning here in Chennai means a lot to me.”
In doubles, the Indonesian pair Janice Tjen and Aldila Sutjiadi also claimed the title, defeating Australia’s Storm Hunter and Romania’s Monica Niculescu 7–5, 6–4 — completing a remarkable double victory for Indonesia at the Chennai Open.

Trump to Host Syrian President al-Sharaa at White House for the First Time
In a historic first, U.S. President Donald Trump is set to host Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa [Muhammad al-Jolani] at the White House for official talks, marking the first-ever visit by a Syrian head of state to the United States.
According to a senior U.S. administration official, the meeting — yet to be formally announced — is scheduled for November 10. The talks are expected to focus on Syria’s potential participation in the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS, signaling a possible diplomatic breakthrough after decades of strained relations.
President Trump previously met al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia in May, during a summit with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) leaders. That meeting was the first interaction between the two nations’ leaders in 25 years, seen as a major step in Syria’s reintegration into the international fold after more than five decades of Assad family rule.
Sources indicate that President al-Sharaa is expected to sign an agreement aligning Syria with the coalition’s counter-terrorism objectives. Notably, al-Sharaa once had a $10 million U.S. bounty on his head, underscoring the dramatic shift in Washington’s diplomatic posture towards Damascus.
