Thayumanavar Scheme

In a significant move to uplift impoverished families, the Tamil Nadu government, under the leadership of the Chief Minister, introduced the “Thayumanavar Scheme” on February 19, 2024. This ambitious initiative, a key project of the Chief Minister, aims to integrate and deliver all governmental assistance to approximately five lakh of the most destitute families, with the goal of rapidly elevating them from poverty.

Objective of the Scheme The primary objective of the Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar Scheme is to identify nearly five lakh of the most impoverished and marginalized families in Tamil Nadu over the next two years. The government will then provide them with essential basic amenities through its various programs, thereby improving their social standing and livelihood.

Key Benefits of the Scheme Under this scheme, vulnerable individuals such as senior citizens living alone, the destitute, orphaned children, single-parent families, individuals with mental health challenges, persons with disabilities, and families with children requiring special assistance will receive comprehensive support. This support extends beyond basic necessities to include education, employment opportunities, skill development, and housing.

Furthermore, the scheme is projected to benefit around five lakh poor and needy families. A significant feature of this program is the direct deposit of financial assistance into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

Additionally, children who have lost both parents and are in the care of relatives will be provided a monthly assistance of ₹2000 until they turn 18. This financial support is intended to help these children continue their schooling without interruption. Upon completion of their school education, they will also be offered appropriate skill development training to pursue higher education.
