TN signs pact with ITDP to boost EV infra

IN a major push towards clean eco-friendly transportation, the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) on Tuesday. The MoU, signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) CMD J Radhakrishnan, aims to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs) and strengthen EV charging infrastructure across the state. As per the agreement, ITDP India will act as a knowledge partner and offer technical support to TNGECL in several important areas, including creating a mobile application for public EV charging, setting up a single-window portal for EV-related policies and market information, planning for land use and feasibility, and preparing city-level EV strategies that can be expanded in future.

UCO Bank’s Lending Rises by 17%

Public sector lender UCO Bank’s lending has increased by 16.58 percent in the past April-June quarter. A regulatory filing released by the bank regarding this states the following: As of the end of this past June 30, the bank’s lending stands at ₹2.25 lakh crore. Compared to the end of the April-June quarter of the previous financial year 2024-25, this is 16.58 percent higher. At that time, the bank’s lending was at ₹1.93 lakh crore. The bank’s deposits, which were ₹2.68 lakh crore at the end of the first quarter of the previous financial year, have increased by 11.57 percent to ₹2.99 lakh crore in the current financial year. In the quarter under review, the share of Current Account and Savings Accounts (CASA) in the total deposits has decreased from 38.62 percent to 36.90 percent, the report mentioned.

MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup hockey

The 96th MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup hockey tournament will be held at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here from July 10 to 20. The Malaysian National junior team will arrive in the city on July 10 (Thursday) for the tournament. It will mark the first time an international team is participating in this prestigious competition, which was first held in 1901. A total of 10 teams will be participating. Malaysia will take on the Indian Navy on July 12 in its first match. Three new teams – Indian Navy, Malaysia, and the Central Board of Direct Taxes – have been included. Odisha, BPCL, and Central Secretariat, which took part in the previous edition, are not participating this year.

RCB’s Brand Value Rises to ₹2,306 Crore

Information has been released stating that the brand value of the current IPL champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has increased to ₹2,306 crore.

However, the team created history by becoming champions in this 18th season. As a result, a report from the investment banking firm ‘Houlihan Lokey’ has stated that the team’s brand value in the market has now increased. Accordingly, the team’s current brand value is ₹2,306 crore. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who previously dominated, have slipped to 3rd place this time with a value of ₹2,015 crore. Mumbai Indians are in 2nd place with a value of ₹2,076 crore. Among the 10 teams, Punjab Kings’ value saw the highest increase of 39.6% this year, reaching ₹1,208 crore. The overall value of the IPL tournament, encompassing advertisers, media, and commerce, has increased by 12.9% and is now at ₹1.6 lakh crore. Within this, the individual value for the IPL brand alone has increased by 13.8% to ₹33,440 crore.

Anti-Submarine Rocket System: India’s Successful Test

India has successfully conducted the test of a long-range anti-submarine rocket system capable of targeting distant objectives. A total of 17 anti-submarine rocket systems were successfully tested in Kavaratti, the capital of the Lakshadweep Union Territory, from June 23 to July 7. The Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune, Maharashtra, and the Indian Navy’s Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) were involved in the design and production of these anti-rocket systems. This entirely domestically-produced rocket system is capable of countering attacks that can be carried out by submarines and can operate from the Indian Navy’s rocket launchers. This rocket system, which can strike long-range targets with high precision, is set to be inducted into the Indian Navy soon.

35% Reservation Only for Women Permanently Residing in Bihar

It was announced in a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar that the 35% reservation for women in employment in Bihar will apply only to those who are permanent residents of Bihar.

Previously, in 2016, the government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced a 35% reservation for women in all government departments with various objectives, including ensuring women’s economic independence, increasing the number of women in government jobs, and enhancing their job security. At that time, it was stated that this reservation was also available to women from other states residing in Bihar.

Prime Minister Modi in Brasilia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who participated in the ‘BRICS’ summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, arrived in the capital city of Brasilia on Tuesday. He was given an enthusiastic welcome. During this bilateral leg of his trip, the Prime Minister is engaged in detailed talks with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Following his visits to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Argentina, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Brazil on July 5th and participated in the BRICS summit held in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia on the 6th and 7th. Prime Minister Modi addressed the summit of the BRICS bloc, which includes the five founding members Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with the additional member countries of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. He also met with the President of the New Development Bank, Dilma Rousseff, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and leaders of various other nations. Following this, he arrived in the capital, Brasilia, from Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday.

After Brazil, the Prime Minister will travel to South Africa and then to Namibia. With this, his five-nation official tour will conclude.
