Tamil Nadu Constitutes 7th State Finance Commission

® The Tamil Nadu Government has constituted the Seventh State Finance Commission to assess and recommend the distribution of State funds to urban and rural local bodies. ® Retired IAS officer K. Allaudin has been appointed as the Chairperson. ® The Commission will submit its report by August 31, 2026, covering the period from April 1, 2027, to March 31, 2032. ® Tiruppur Mayor N. Dinesh Kumar is the non-official member. ® Ex-officio members include the Director of Municipal Administration, Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, and Commissioner of Town Panchayats. ® IAS officer Pratik Tayal will serve as the Member-Secretary. ® The 6th Commission had submitted its report in February 2022.

Tamil Nadu Among Top Five Heat-Risk States in India: CEEW Report

® Tamil Nadu ranks fifth among Indian states facing high to very high heat risk, as per a report by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). ® The study follows 2024, the hottest year on record globally, with India experiencing its longest heatwave since 2010. In Tamil Nadu: ® 46% districts face very high heat risk ® 43% districts face high risk ® 11% districts face moderate risk ® No districts fall under low or very low risk categories ® Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Goa share the top position as the most heat-vulnerable states. ® The findings highlight the urgent need for localised climate adaptation and heat action plans.

Tamil Nadu’s GSDP Nears $341 Billion, Surpasses Pakistan’s GDP

® Tamil Nadu’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for 2025 is estimated at around $341 billion, reportedly surpassing Pakistan’s GDP, which currently ranges between $338 billion to $373 billion. ® Tamil Nadu’s economy rose sharply from $48 billion in 2004–05 to $329 billion in 2024, and further to $341 billion in 2025. ® In contrast, Pakistan’s GDP was approximately $132 billion in 2004–05. ® Maharashtra’s economy also grew significantly — from $92 billion (2004–05) to nearly $490 billion in 2023–24, remaining India’s largest sub-national economy. ® This marks Tamil Nadu as one of the leading state economies, underscoring India’s regional economic strength and consistent industrial and service sector growth
