Day 2025 – May 31
® Observed to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use and promote policies to reduce consumption. ® Globally, around 37 million children aged 13-15 years use tobacco. ® The 2025 theme is “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing the Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products.”
Energy and Climate Change Report 2025: India on Track to Exceed
Emission Targets
® As per the 2025 Energy and Climate Change Report by CEEW and AEEE, India is on course to surpass its climate target of reducing emissions intensity of GDP by 45% by 2030 (compared to 2005 levels). ® The report projects a 48–57% reduction in emissions intensity from the energy sector alone by 2030. ® These findings highlight India’s progress toward its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, through energy efficiency and clean energy transitions.
Google Introduces “Matryoshka” AI Strategy
Google has launched a new “Matryoshka” AI strategy, aimed at deeply integrating foundational AI models across all its platforms and services.
Detection of New Covid-19 Variant NB.1.8.1 in India
® New Covid-19 subvariants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 have been detected in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. ® Both are sub-lineages of the JN.1 variant, currently the dominant Covid-19 strain in India. ® The NB.1.8.1 variant is characterized by notable spike protein mutations: ® A435S, V445H, and T478I. ® The parent strain, JN.1, carries the L455S mutation.

The Indian Navy (IN) Chiefs’ Conclave 2025 was held at Nausena Bhawan , the IN headquarters in New Delhi .

Saab completes AT4
deliveries

The Swedish defense company Saab delivered the AT4 to the Indian Armed Forces ahead of Aero India 2025.

The AT4 is a lightweight, man-portable, and unguided rocket launcher system.
®
The AT4 is versatile enough to be used by both the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF).
®
The AT4 can be fired from confined spaces such as buildings, bunkers, and other urban environments

Procurement of 31 MQ-9B Predator drones from the USA

Indigenous development of two nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs)

The drones can fly for up to 40 hours.
