IMD celebrates

150th anniversary

®     

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) celebrated its 150th Foundation Day at Bharat Mandapam in

New Delhi .

®     

PM Narendra Modi attended the event and launched “ Mission Mausam ” to transform India into a ‘ Weather-Ready’

and ‘ Climate-smart’ country.

®     

He released a commemorative postage stamp and a ₹150

circular coin .

®     

IMD organised an ‘ Undivided India’ seminar.

Two Permanent

Judges Appointed to Chennai High Court

New Appointments:

®      V. Lakshminarayanan and P. Vadamalai, previously serving as additional judges, have been appointed as permanent judges in the Chennai High Court.

®      Total Judges: 65 judges in the Chennai High Court.

®      With the appointment of these two, the number of permanent judges increases to 56 (out of 65).

Collegium System:

®      High Court Collegium: Led by the Chief Justice (CJ) and four senior judges of the respective court.

®      Article 124: The President appoints Supreme Court and High Court judges after consultation.

®      Article 217: High Court judges appointed through the President’s order after necessary consultations.

New Members to

SC/ST Commission – Tamil Nadu

New Appointments:

®      Vice-Chairperson:

®      Imayam (V. Annamalai), noted writer and Sahitya Akademi Award recipient.

Other Members:

®      S. Selvakumar (Coimbatore), S. Ananda Raja (Thanjavur), M. Pon Dhous (Nilgiris), and P. Ilanchezhian (Tirunelveli).

®      Re-nomination: P. Ilanchezhian has been re-nominated.

®      Tenure: Members serve a three-year tenure.

®      Constitution of Commission: The Tamil Nadu State Commission as per the SC/ST Act 2021 formed the commission.

®      Chairperson: S. Tamilvanan, a retired Madras High Court Judge.

Role and Responsibilities:

®      Address violations of rights under the Protection of Civil Rights Act (1955) and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act (1989).

®      Investigate negligence by public servants in preventing such violations.

NAKSHA Pilot

Project

®      The NAKSHA Pilot Project for modernizing urban land records was launched in Thanjavur.

®      Part of the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme by the Union Ministry of Rural Development.

Objective:

®      Ensure accurate and up-to-date urban land records, empowering citizens and enabling better urban planning.

Implementation:

®      The one-year pilot programme will be implemented in 150+ cities across India.

®      Drones for geospatial mapping and creating accurate property records.

®      Advanced land survey devices to develop detailed maps.

®      Data integration with property tax records of urban local bodies.

Youngest pilot in India

®      Samaira Hullur , at the age of 18 , has become the youngest person in India to obtain a commercial pilot license .

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya

Yojana (PM-JAY):

®      Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) was launched on 23rd September 2018.

®      PMJAY is the world largest health assurance scheme, aims at providing a health cover of ₹5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to poor and vulnerable families.

®      There is no cap on family size, or age or gender.

®      National Health Authority , an attached office of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is the apex body implementing AB-PMJAY across the country.

PM surya Ghar: Muft

Bijli Yojana:

®     

The scheme was launched on febraury 2024

®     

It aims to boost sustainable development and ensure the well – being of people by offering free electicity.

®     

Benefit- Provide up to 300 units of free electricity every month

®     

Subsidy cover

®     

₹30,000 subsidy for a 1 KW system

®     

₹60,000 for 2 KW systems

®     

₹78,000 for 3 KW system or higher.

UJALA and SLNP

complete 10 years

®     

The Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme and the Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP), both implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) , have completed 10 years of implementation.

®     

Both were launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 5, 2015.

®     

UJALA is the world’s largest zero-subsidy domestic lighting programme.

®     

As of January 2025, UJALA has achieved the following:

®     

Annual reduction in CO2 emissions by 3.87 crore tonnes

®     

Annual energy savings of 47,883 million kWh

®     

The SLNP aims to reduce energy consumption and operational costs for public lighting by replacing conventional street lamps with LEDs.

®     

As of January 2025, SLNP has achieved the following:

®     

Over 1.34 crore LED streetlights installed

®     

Annual reduction in CO2 emissions by 6.2 million tonnes.
