India Maritime Heritage Conclave

® The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) organised the first edition of the India Maritime Heritage Conclave (IMHC 2024) at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka, New Delhi . ® The conclave was held under the theme ‘Towards Understanding India’s Position in Global Maritime History’ . ® Ministers involved for youth empowerment: Ministry of Education (MoE); Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E); Ministry of Culture andTourism, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MoYA&S). ® The conclave was inaugurated by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar . ® Experts and academicians from 11 countries participated. ® Discussions were held on the Chola Empire’s contribution to maritime history, advancements in traditional shipbuilding, and the evolution of naval power in India.

New Aircraft Act

® President Droupadi Murmu has given her assent to the ‘Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak’ . ® This new act replaces the 90-year-old Aircraft Act, 1934 (amended 21 times). ® The aim is to enhance aircraft design and manufacturing in India.

Snakebite cases to be notified

® The central government has asked all states to notify snakebite cases and deaths as “notifiable diseases”. ® The plan aims to reduce snakebite fatalities by 50% by 2030. ® This notification should be done under the respective State Public Health Acts or other relevant legislations.

iSNR and INR Konnect

® The Rubber Board has announced two new projects - iSNR and INR Konnect. ® They were unveiled during the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Rubber Act, 1947. ® The iSNR (Indian Sustainable Natural Rubber) aims at aligning Indian rubber production with the stringent European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) standards. ® A key feature of iSNR is its traceability certification. ® INR Konnect, a web-based platform, is designed to connect growers of untapped rubber holdings with interested adopters to maximise plantation productivity. ® India is the third-largest producer of natural rubber globally, following Thailand (1st) and Indonesia (2nd). ® India is the fourth-largest consumer of natural rubber. ® Kerala accounts for over 90% of India’s natural rubber production. ® Other states include Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya.
