Aligarh Muslim University gets 1st woman Vice-Chancellor
Naima Khatoon has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). She is the first woman to hold the top post in over 100 years Khatoon’s appointment was made by the Ministry of Education ( MoE ) Aligarh Muslim University was established in 1875 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College. It was renamed in 1920 as the Aligarh Muslim University.

Rajiv Gauba to head
committee on LGBTQ+ community
The government of India set up a six member committee on LGBTQ+ communities headed by union cabinent secretary Rajiv Gauba. It has been set up by the government on the suggestion of the Supreme Court in the Supriyo Chakraborty vs Union Of India Case. In the Supriyo Chakraborty vs Union Of India Case 2023, the Supreme Court held that the LGBTQ+ community has no fundamental right to marry under the Special Marriage Act 1954.
