In 2024, India
continues to maintain its position as the world’s largest producer of jute.
Reason: With favourable soil conditions, warm temperatures, and a long-standing tradition of hemp cultivation, India’s hemp industry thrives, especially in the state of West Bengal. India contributes about 1,720,000 tonnes of the global jute market. India is followed by Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, China and Nepal.

India’s
pharmaceuticals exports rise 10% to $28 billion in FY24
According to the ministry of commerce data, pharma exports in March grew by 12.73 per cent to USD 2.8 billion. The top five export markets are the US, the UK, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil. But India’s agricultural exports slipped nearly 9 per cent between April to February in FY24 to $43.7 billion due to the Red Sea crisis, the Russia-Ukraine war, along with domestic restrictions.
