Nvidia Invests $2 Billion More in CoreWeave
Nvidia Corp. has made an additional investment of $2 billion in CoreWeave Inc. to accelerate the expansion of over 5 gigawatts of artificial intelligence (AI) computing capacity by 2030. Nvidia purchased Class A common shares at $87.20 per share, as announced on Monday. As part of the collaboration, CoreWeave will be among the first companies to deploy upcoming Nvidia products, including storage systems and a new central processing unit (CPU). Nvidia had earlier committed to purchasing over $6 billion worth of services from CoreWeave through 2032. The move also highlights Nvidia’s entry into a new segment, with the launch of its standalone CPU branded “Vera”, marking the first time Nvidia has offered a CPU independently.
Marico Acquires 4700BC Snack Brand
Marico Ltd. has signed an agreement with PVR Inox Ltd. to acquire a 93.27% stake in Zea Maize Private Ltd., the owner of the premium gourmet snacking brand 4700BC, for ₹227 crore.
The brand 4700BC, founded in 2013, is known for popcorn, popped chips, and nachos, and is recognised as a pioneer of gourmet popcorn in India.
The brand has established its presence across offline, online, and institutional channels, including airlines and cinemas.

PFRDA Constitutes Expert Panel to Revamp NPS
The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has constituted a high-level expert committee named Strategic Asset Allocation and Risk Governance (SAARG) to review and modernise the investment framework of the National Pension System (NPS).
The panel has been tasked with a comprehensive review of existing NPS investment guidelines, benchmarking them with leading global pension systems, and aligning them with the evolving Indian investment ecosystem.
The objective is to strengthen retirement wealth creation, enhance diversification, improve risk management, and expand investment choices for subscribers.
The committee will examine strategic asset allocation, introduction and review of asset classes, performance measurement and accountability, asset–liability management (ALM) practices, valuation standards for alternative investments, portfolio stability and liquidity optimisation, governance and intermediary architecture, and integration of sustainability considerations.
The SAARG committee is headed by Narayan Ramachandran, former Country Head and CEO of Morgan Stanley India, and current Chairman of TeamLease Services.

Bihar Wins Ranji Trophy Plate, Returns to Elite Group
In the Ranji Trophy Plate final held at Patna on Monday, Bihar defeated Manipur by 568 runs, securing promotion back to the Elite Group. Bihar’s victory was built on Piyush Singh’s unbeaten 216 in the second innings, with additional support from Raghuvendra Pratap Singh (90).
Bihar scored 522 in the first innings and 505/6 declared in the second, while Manipur were bowled out for 264 and 195.
Bihar had earlier entered the Elite Group in the 2022–23 season, slipped back to the Plate in 2024–25, and has now returned to the Elite Group; the team has also secured promotion to the Elite League of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
WPL: Nat Sciver-Brunt Hits First Century
In the Women’s Premier League (WPL) match held at the Kotambi Stadium, Mumbai Indians defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 15 runs.
Nat Sciver‑Brunt scored 100 not out off 57 balls, becoming the first player to score a century in WPL history.
Mumbai Indians posted 199 for 4 in 20 overs, with support from Hayley Matthews (56).
In reply, Royal Challengers Bengaluru scored 184 for 9, despite Richa Ghosh scoring 90 off 50 balls.
Nat Sciver-Brunt was named Player of the Match.
India Wins 10 Medals at Doha WTT Youth Star Contender
At the WTT Youth Star Contender Table Tennis Tournament held in Doha from January 23 to January 25, India won a total of 10 medals including 4 gold medals.
In the U-15 girls’ singles, Amona Roy won the gold medal, while Ankolika Chakraborty and Moubani Chatterjee secured silver medals.
In the U-15 girls’ doubles, the Indian pair Ankolika Chakraborty – Moubani Chatterjee won the silver medal.
In the U-15 boys’ doubles, Akash Rajavelu of Tamil Nadu and Rishan Chattopadhyay won the gold medal, defeating Spain’s Ladimir Mayorov and Hong Kong’s Ham Lok in the final.
In the U-19 mixed doubles, Divyansh Srivastava and P. P. Adithit won gold, while in the U-15 mixed doubles, Ankolika Chakraborty and Aditya Das clinched gold.
In the U-19 men’s singles, Adithit won silver, Divyanshi won bronze in the women’s singles, and Aditya Das secured bronze in the U-15 men’s singles.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape Win SA20 Title for Third Time
In the SA20 cricket tournament held in South Africa, Sunrisers Eastern Cape won the championship title for the third time after defeating Pretoria Capitals in the final match at Cape Town.
Batting first, Pretoria Capitals scored 158 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs, with Dawid Malan scoring 101 runs.
Chasing a target of 159 runs, Sunrisers Eastern Cape reached 162 runs for 4 wickets in 19.2 overs, with Matthew Breetzke scoring 68 runs and captain Tristan Stubbs scoring 63 runs.
Marco Jansen took 3 wickets for Sunrisers.
With this 6-wicket victory, Sunrisers Eastern Cape secured their third SA20 title, having earlier won the tournament in 2023 and 2024.
Haryana Wins Khelo India Winter Games; Tamil Nadu 6th
At the conclusion of the 6th Khelo India Winter Games (First Phase) held from January 20 to January 26 at Leh in the Ladakh Union Territory, Haryana topped the medal tally and won the overall championship with 4 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals (total 7 medals).
The competitions, including men’s and women’s ice hockey and ice skating, were conducted at Wang Tong Stadium, the Army Ice Rink, and the frozen Thuk Lake, with 472 athletes from 21 States and Union Territories participating.
Ladakh finished second with 11 medals (2 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze), while Maharashtra secured third place with 7 medals (2 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze).
Tamil Nadu finished in 6th place with 3 medals, comprising 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. In individual achievements, Skarma Sultana of Ladakh emerged as the most successful athlete, winning 4 medals (2 gold and 2 silver), while Alex Vijay Vilvanath of Tamil Nadu won 1 gold and 1 silver in speed long-track skating.
Vedanta Kalinga Lancers Win Hockey India League Title
At Bhubaneswar on January 26, Vedanta Kalinga Lancers won the Hockey India League (Men’s) championship by defeating Ranchi Royals by 3–2 goals in the final match.
This was the second Hockey India League title for Vedanta Kalinga Lancers, having previously won the championship in 2017.
In the final, Alexander Hendricks scored twice for Kalinga, while Dilpreet Singh added one goal, and Araijeet Singh Hundal and Tom Boon scored for Ranchi.
In the third-place playoff, Hyderabad Sultans defeated the Hockey India League Governing Council (HILL) team by 4–3 goals, securing the third position in the tournament.

India Wins Gold at WTT Youth Star Contender
India won the gold medal at the WTT Youth Star Contender tournament held in Doha, Qatar.
In the U-15 category, Akash Rajavelu of Tamil Nadu and Rishan Chattopadhyay of West Bengal represented India. In the final, the Indian pair defeated Spain–Hong Kong duo Malov and Hang Lok by 11-8, 11-4, 11-8 (3-0) to secure the gold medal.
Earlier, in the semi-final, they defeated the Sri Lanka–Malaysia pair Thavi Samaraveera and Khoi Wei by 3-2.
Akash Rajavelu is coached by veteran Indian table tennis players Sharath Kamal and Raj Kamal, and is also training at the STTA High-Performance Table Tennis Centre in Macedonia.
India–Russia Trade Target by 2030
Vinay Kumar, the Indian Ambassador to Russia, stated that India and Russia are progressing towards achieving a bilateral trade target of ₹9.16 lakh crore by 2030.
The statement was made during the Republic Day celebrations held at the Indian Embassy in Moscow.
He confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had visited India in the previous year and that the visit was successful.
Measures are being undertaken to reach the trade target, including the identification of new trade products, the proposed free trade agreement, and expanded cooperation in sectors such as fertilisers, agriculture, and engineering.
He also noted that bilateral trade between India and Russia is largely conducted using their respective national currencies, with the usage of national currencies expected to increase further as trade and economic relations strengthen.

Anna Medals and State Awards at Republic Day Function
At the Republic Day celebrations organised by the Government of Tamil Nadu on January 26 at Kamarajar Salai, Marina Beach, Chennai, M. K. Stalin presented various state awards. The Anna Medals for Gallantry were awarded to V. Sankar (Fire Service Driver), P. Suresh, S. Ramesh Kumar (Firefighters), and Firefighter Peter Johnson (posthumously, received by Jessie). The Kottai Ameer Communal Harmony Award was conferred on M. Kaleelulla of Tiruppur district, while the C. Narayanasamy Naidu Award for Paddy Yield was presented to G. Veeramani of Thanjavur district. The Gandhian Police Medal was awarded to P. Natarajan, Police Inspector, Central Intelligence Division, Villuppuram Zone; M. Sathyanathan, Police Sub-Inspector, Auroville Police Station, Villuppuram district; S. Manikandan, Police Sub-Inspector, Chinna Salem Police Station, Kallakurichi district; K. Natarajan, Police Sub-Inspector, Puthur Police Station, Cuddalore district; and V. P. Kannan, Head Constable, Central Intelligence, Salem district. Trophies for Best Police Stations were awarded with First Prize to Madurai City (Inspector B. Bhoominathan), Second Prize to Tiruppur City (Inspector K. World Women’s Summit in Chennai
A two-day World Women’s Summit organised by the Government of Tamil Nadu commenced in Chennai on January 27–28, with M. K. Stalin presiding over the inaugural session. The summit is conducted under the Tamil Nadu Women’s Employment and Safety Scheme and is being held at the Nandambakkam Trade Centre. The event aims to strengthen women’s participation in the workforce by addressing employment, workplace safety, skill development, entrepreneurship, and inclusive work environments. Over 500 delegates are participating, including Udhayanidhi Stalin, representatives from the World Bank, UN Women, and the United Nations Development Programme. The summit includes 11 thematic sessions and more than 70 speakers, and the deliberations will be used to prepare a state-level implementation plan for the Women’s Employment and Safety Scheme.
