ADB’s $10 Billion

Urban Infrastructure Initiative in India

® Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched a $10 billion five-year initiative to boost urban infrastructure in India. ® The funding will support metro expansions, new regional rapid transit corridors, and upgrades in urban services. ® ADB aims to attract third-party capital as part of this investment. ® It has previously worked in 110+ cities across 22 states in sectors like water supply, sanitation, housing, and solid-waste management. ® ADB forecasts India’s GDP growth at 6.7% in FY 2025–26 and 6.8% in FY 2026–27 – about 2% higher than average developing Asian economies. ® ADB, founded in 1966, has 69 member countries, including 50 from the Asia-Pacific region. ® ADB began operations in India in 1986.

Milk Production in

India 2023-24

® India remains the world’s largest milk producer since 1998, contributing 25% of global milk production. ® In 2023-24, average daily milk consumption per capita in India is 471 grams, well above the global average of 322 grams. ® Milk production grew by 63.56% from 146.3 million tonnes (2014-15) to 239.2 million tonnes (2023-24). ® Uttar Pradesh is the leading milk-producing state, contributing 16.21% of the country’s total output. ® West Bengal recorded the fastest growth in milk production. ® India also holds the largest livestock population globally at 536.76 million. ® Dairy is India’s largest agricultural commodity, contributing 5% to the national economy and employing over 8 crore farmers directly.

® Date: 5 June 2025 ® Theme: “One Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution” ® PM Narendra Modi launched Phase II of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign by planting a sapling in Delhi. The campaign aims to plant 10 crore saplings across India. ® National Plastic Waste Reporting Portal launched for transparent plastic waste management. ® Publications released on government initiatives and eco-alternatives to single-use plastics. ® National Plastic Pollution Reduction Campaign started focusing on tiger reserves, urban and rural areas, and government offices. ® Expo on Eco-alternatives showcased innovations by 150+ startups and recyclers. ® Emphasis on Mission LiFE, EPR guidelines, innovation, behavioural change, and collective action to tackle plastic pollution.

State of India’s

Environment in Figures 2025 Released by CSE

® The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) released the State of India’s Environment in Figures 2025 report. ® It ranks 36 States and UTs using 48 indicators across four themes: environment, agriculture, public health, and human development. ® Andhra Pradesh topped in environmental management, Goa in public health, and Sikkim excelled in another category. ® No state was a consistent performer across all sectors. ® Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, and West Bengal ranked low across most categories. ® India’s greenhouse gas emissions reached 7.8% of the global total, the highest share since 1970.
