Praggnanandhaa wins Tata Steel Chess

® Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa has won the Tata Steel Masters chess tournament held in the Netherlands. ® He defeated D Gukesh 2-1 in the tie-breaker. ® He is the first Indian chess player since Vishwanatha Anand (2006 ) to win Tata steel title. ® Both players finished with 8.5 points , leading to the tie-breaker.

Jyothi Yarraji sets new record

® Jyothi Yarraji has set a new national record in the women’s 60m indoor hurdles at the Meeting de Nantes Métropole 2025 athletics meet in France. ® She clocked 8.04 seconds to win the final A at the Pierre-Quinon Metropolitan Stadium.

mNexspike COVID-19 Vaccine Approved in the U.S.

® The U.S. has approved mNexspike, a next-generation COVID-19 vaccine developed by Moderna. ® It uses a lower dosage — one-fifth of the original Moderna COVID-19 vaccine dose. ® Target groups include individuals aged 65 and above, and those aged 12 to 64. ® The approval marks progress toward more efficient and advanced vaccine formulations for COVID-19.

Indigenous Thrombectomy Device Development

® India to manufacture its first indigenously developed mechanical thrombectomy device for stroke care. ® Supported by the Technology Development Board (TDB). ® Developed by S3V Vascular Technologies, Mysuru. ® Integrated facility to be set up near Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. ® Device treats ischaemic strokes by removing blood clots from brain vessels. ® India reported 1.25 million new stroke cases in 2021, a 51% rise since 1990.
