Watershed Yatra launched

® Union Minister has launched a campaign named “ Watershed Yatra ” to promote people’s participation in Watershed Development activities under the PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY 2.0) .

Gujarat designates first BHS

® The Gujarat government has declared the inland mangrove in Guneri, Kutch district , as the state’s first Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS) . ® This type of mangrove is found in only eight locations worldwide.

US withdraws from WHO

® The USA has announced its decision to withdraw from the WHO . ® The country alleges that the organisation has mishandled the COVID-19 pandemic and other health emergencies. ® The USA contributes approximately 18% of the WHO’s total funding, which is $6.8 billion for 2024-2025.

Niger eliminates river blindness

® Niger has become the first African country and the fifth country globally to eliminate onchocerciasis (river blindness) as a public health concern. ® The parasitic disease is transmitted through the bites of infected blackflies . ® It is the second leading infectious cause of blindness globally.
