HIGH ENERGY PHOTON

SOURCE

China’s High Energy Photon Source (HEPS) was successfully installed in the Huairou Science City in Beijing. The HEPS, after completion, will stand as one of the brightest synchrotron radiations( SR) sources in the world. It is also the first high-energy synchrotron radiation facility in China. The HEPS is designed to accelerate electrons upto energies of 6 gigaelectron volts within its 1.36 –kilometer circumference storage ring.

WEST NILE

VIRUS-KERALA

The West Nile virus (WNV), a mosquito- borne arbovirus of the family Flaviviridae, has become a cause of concern across Kerala. West Nile virus is a single-stranded RNA virus transmitted mainly by mosquitoes. It shares similarities with viruses causing Japanese encephalitis and yellow fever. The virus gets transmitted from person to person through the biting of infected Culex mosquitoes. They acquire the virus from infected birds (mostly migrating). It also infects humans, horses, and other mammals.
