India Defeats Switzerland 4–0 in SDAT Squash World Cup
The SDAT Squash World Cup began in Chennai with 12 participating teams. In its opening match in Pool B, the Indian team defeated Switzerland 4–0. In the men’s singles, Velavan Senthilkumar beat Robin Gadola 7–6, 7–6, 7–5, and Abhay Singh won against David Bernet 7–0, 7–5, 7–3. In the women’s category, Anahat Singh defeated Celine Walser 7–1, 7–4, 7–2, while Joshna Chinappa overcame Cindy Merlo 7–1, 5–7, 7–2, 7–0. In other matches, Egypt defeated Colombia 4–0 in Pool A, and Japan beat France 4–0 in Pool D. The Indian team will play its next match against Brazil on December 11 at 2:30 PM at Express Avenue Mall, Chennai.
Jasprit Bumrah Becomes First Indian to Take 100 Wickets in All Formats
Jasprit Bumrah has become the first Indian bowler to achieve 100 wickets in all three international formats—Tests, One Day Internationals, and T20 Internationals. He reached this milestone when he dismissed Dewald Brevis during a match in Cuttack. In the T20 International format, Bumrah has taken 101 wickets in 81 matches, becoming the second Indian after Arshdeep Singh (who has 107 wickets in 69 matches) to achieve 100 wickets in the shortest format.

Logo Launched for Chennai International Book Festival 2026
School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi launched the logo of the Chennai International Book Festival (CIBF) 2026 at the Anna Centenary Library Auditorium in Chennai. The fourth edition of the CIBF will be held from January 16 to January 18, 2026, at Kalaivanar Arangam. The Frankfurt International Book Fair Organising Committee will be the Guest of Honour for this edition. The event is expected to see participation from 100 countries. Dignitaries present at the launch included School Education Secretary B. Chandra Mohan, Director of Public Library S. Jayanthi, Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation Managing Director M. Aarthi, and School Education Director S. Kannappan.
Tamil Nadu Wins ‘Best State Promoting Sports Development’ Award
Tamil Nadu has been awarded the title of ‘Best State Promoting Sports Development’ at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Sports Business Awards held in Chennai. The award recognizes excellence, innovation, and leadership in India’s sports industry. The event, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, also honoured other winners including Haryana Steelers, KIIT University, Shiv Naresh, and Manoj Badale. International Vallalar Conference to be Held in Chennai
The International Vallalar Conference is scheduled to be held in the first week of February in Chennai, and it will be inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, according to P.K. Sekar Babu, the Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments. The venue chosen for the conference is a vacant site on Poonamallee High Road in Kilpauk, Chennai, belonging to the Ekambaranathar Temple in Kanchipuram. Past Instances of Judge Impeachment Motions in India
In India, several impeachment motions have been initiated against judges in the past. In 1993, a motion against Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice V. Ramaswami failed to secure the required two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha. In 2011, a motion against Calcutta High Court Judge Soumitra Sen was passed in the Rajya Sabha, but he resigned before it was moved in the Lok Sabha. The same year, Sikkim High Court Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran resigned after the Rajya Sabha Chairman initiated impeachment proceedings over corruption allegations. In 2015, 58 Rajya Sabha members moved a motion against Gujarat High Court Judge J.B. Pardiwala for remarks on reservation, which was dropped after he withdrew his comments. Another motion in 2015 to remove Madhya Pradesh High Court Judge S.K. Gangele on sexual harassment charges was dismissed due to lack of evidence. In 2017, a motion against Andhra Pradesh and Telangana High Court Judge C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy lapsed after nine of the 54 Rajya Sabha members who signed it withdrew support. In 2018, a draft impeachment motion against the then Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra was rejected by the then Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu.
