Armed Forces Flag Day – December 7
Armed Forces Flag Day is observed every year on December 7 in India to honor the brave soldiers, airmen, and sailors of the Indian Armed Forces who protect the nation.
The day was first observed in 1949, following a decision by the Ministry of Defence to commemorate the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel and to collect funds for their welfare. On this day, citizens donate to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, and small flags are distributed as a mark of support and respect.Funds collected are used for the rehabilitation of battle casualties, the welfare of serving personnel and their families, and the resettlement of ex-servicemen.

Central Government Fixes Upper Cap on Airfares Following Indigo Flight Cancellations
The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, headed by Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, has imposed an upper fare cap on domestic air travel after widespread cancellations of Indigo flights across major Indian cities. Over 1,600 flights were cancelled nationwide on December 6, 2025, following operational disruptions caused by a pilot shortage resulting from the implementation of the revised Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules from November 1, 2025. The ministry announced that airfares will be capped at ₹7,500 for 500 km, ₹12,000 for 500–1,000 km, ₹15,000 for 1,000–1,500 km, and ₹18,000 for over 1,500 km, excluding airport fees and taxes. This cap will remain effective until the situation stabilizes and does not apply to Business Class or UDAN scheme flights. The ministry also directed Indigo to refund all cancelled flight fares by December 7, 8 PM, and to return passenger baggage within 48 hours. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a notice to Indigo CEO Pieter Elbers seeking an explanation within 24 hours. Additionally, the Railways announced the operation of 84 special trains to manage passenger congestion, and Air India introduced fare caps on its non-stop domestic flights to assist affected travellers.
DRDO Hands Over Seven New Defence Technologies to Armed Forces
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has handed over seven newly developed technologies to the Indian Armed Forces under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme. These technologies include high power supply systems for airborne self-protection jammers, sea-wave resistant navigation technology for naval patrol vessels, advanced Very Low Frequency (VLF) and High Frequency (HF) switching systems, VLF aerials for underwater vessel platforms, propulsion technology for rapid interception of enemy ships, technology for lithium extraction from used lithium batteries, and long-duration battery technology for underwater surveillance. After extensive testing, these technologies have been approved and transferred for military application.
Ninth Edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha to be Held in January
The ninth edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha, the annual interactive programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be held in January 2026. According to the Ministry of Education, the registration process for participation will remain open till January 11, 2026. The event provides a platform for students, parents, and teachers from India and abroad to engage with the Prime Minister on topics related to exam preparation and stress management. The MyGov portal will conduct an online competition from December 1, 2025, to January 11, 2026, featuring multiple-choice questions for students from Classes 6 to 12, along with teachers and parents who wish to participate.
NGO in Rajasthan Targets 38 Districts to End Child Marriage
A civil society network, Just Rights for Children (JRC), has identified 38 high-risk districts in Rajasthan to eliminate child marriage through community participation and legal action within a year. The initiative supports the State Government and leverages village panchayat resources to raise awareness in remote areas. According to the National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5, 2019–2021), Rajasthan’s child marriage prevalence is 25.4%, slightly higher than the national average of 23.3%, with Chittorgarh and Bhilwara districts recording over 40% prevalence. Other districts like Jhalawar, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Bundi, Bharatpur, Karauli, Bikaner, Alwar, and Pratapgarh show over 30% prevalence. JRC, working with 17 partner organisations, claims to have prevented 22,480 child marriages in 2024. Additionally, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched a 100-day national campaign to end child marriage by 2030, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The campaign includes awareness programs in schools and colleges, collaboration with faith leaders and social influencers, and mobilising gram panchayats and municipal wards to pass resolutions against child marriage.

Tamil Nadu Sends 950 Metric Tonnes of Relief Materials to Sri Lanka
The Tamil Nadu Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, dispatched 950 metric tonnes of relief materials to Sri Lanka, which was severely affected by Cyclone Divva. The consignment included 650 metric tonnes from Chennai Port and 300 metric tonnes from Tuticorin Port, sent through ships belonging to the Indian Navy. From Chennai Port, the relief items comprised 300 metric tonnes of sugar, 300 metric tonnes of pulses, 25 metric tonnes of milk powder, 5,000 dhotis, 5,000 sarees, 10,000 towels, 10,000 blankets, and 1,000 tarpaulins, while from Tuticorin Port, 150 metric tonnes each of sugar and pulses were shipped. The Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner Dr. Ganesan Keethswaran received a sample kit from the Chief Minister during the event held at Chennai Port. The event was attended by Ministers P.K. Sekarbabu and S.M. Nasar, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, Rear Admiral Satish M. Shenoy (Flag Officer Commanding, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area), Public Department Secretary Reeta Harish Thakkar, and Chennai Port Trust Chairman Viswanathan. A parallel event was held at Tuticorin Port, attended by Ministers Geetha Jeevan and Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, MP Kanimozhi, and District Collector K. Elambahavath.
Madurai Melamadai Flyover Named After Veeramangai Velunachiyar
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the newly constructed flyover at the Madurai Melamadai junction, built at a cost of ₹150.28 crore, will be named the ‘Veeramangai Velunachiyar Flyover’. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the project on December 7, 2025. The 950-metre-long flyover has been constructed on the Madurai–Thondi Road, connecting key junctions such as the Anna Bus Stand, Aavin Junction, and Melamadai Junction, which experience heavy traffic. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion from Goripalayam to the Madurai Ring Road and enhance connectivity to Sivaganga district. The flyover is named after Queen Velunachiyar, who fought against the British and reclaimed the Sivaganga kingdom.
India’s Largest Cancer Hospital to Open in Kancheepuram at ₹324 Crore
The Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma. Subramanian announced that India’s largest cancer hospital is being established near Karapettai, Kancheepuram, with 770 beds at a total cost of ₹324 crore. The project includes ₹218 crore for building construction and ₹106 crore for medical equipment. The hospital, named after Anna, will surpass Mumbai’s Tata Memorial Cancer Research Institute, which has 670 beds, making it the largest cancer treatment center in India. The facility will soon be inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The announcement was made during a ‘Nalam Kaakkum Stalin’ health camp held at Kundrathur, Chennai, where the Minister also reviewed ongoing medical services and stated that 1,256 health camps are planned across Tamil Nadu, with 634 already conducted, benefiting over 10.23 lakh people.
Chief Minister Distributes ₹265 Crore Welfare Assistance to Beneficiaries
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin distributed ₹265.50 crore welfare assistance to 9,371 beneficiaries across Tamil Nadu to support livelihood restoration for poor families. The assistance included benefits under the Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar Scheme, Village Panchayat Awards for Social Harmony to 10 village panchayats, educational scholarships, and self-employment subsidies. Additionally, the Chief Minister inaugurated buildings constructed under the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department across the state.
Investor Conference in Madurai: MoUs Worth ₹36,660 Crore to Be Signed
The ‘Tamil Nadu Valargirathu’ Investors’ Conference will be held in Madurai on December 7, 2025, under the leadership of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, where 91 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹36,660.35 crore will be signed. As part of his visit, the Chief Minister will inaugurate a flyover constructed at Melamadai Junction at a cost of ₹150.28 crore and lay the foundation stone for a new SIPCOT Industrial Park at Melur. He will also distribute house site pattas to 63,698 beneficiaries, inaugurate completed projects worth ₹3,065 crore, and lay foundation stones for new development works. Over the past four years, the State has completed 18,881 development projects valued at ₹18,795 crore, and provided welfare assistance worth ₹8,668 crore to 96.55 lakh beneficiaries, totaling ₹27,463 crore. Additionally, the Kalaignar Centenary Library in Madurai, built over 2.4 lakh sq. ft. with 8 floors at a cost of ₹216 crore, was inaugurated on July 15, 2023. The Kalaignar Centenary Jallikattu Arena, established on 16 acres at Keelakarai village near Alanganallur, has also been opened to promote the traditional Eru Thazhuvuthal sport.
Reliance to Invest ₹11,760 Crore in Bio-Energy Project in Tamil Nadu
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has proposed a ₹11,760-crore bio-energy project in Tamil Nadu, as part of the State Government’s initiative to promote industrial expansion in southern districts. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this investment is expected to be signed during the ‘Tamil Nadu Rising’ investors’ conclave in Madurai. The project aligns with RIL’s green energy goals and aims to create around 5,000 employment opportunities. It will contribute to providing clean energy for both domestic and industrial use across the state. The initiative represents one of the largest industrial investments in southern Tamil Nadu and reflects the State’s strategy to expand major capital projects beyond Chennai and the western industrial corridor. Earlier, in January 2024, RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani had reiterated the company’s commitment to invest in renewable energy and green hydrogen sectors in Tamil Nadu during the Global Investors Meet held in Chennai.

India Wins World Cup Carrom Championship
At the 7th World Cup Carrom Tournament held in Male, Maldives, India emerged as the champion in both the Men’s and Women’s categories. In the Women’s Team category, the Indian team consisting of Keerthana, Mithra, Kasima (Tamil Nadu) and Kajal Kumari (Maharashtra) won the championship title. In the Women’s Singles, L. Keerthana became the World Champion, while the pair of Keerthana and Kajal Kumari clinched the Doubles title. In the Men’s Swiss League, Tamil Nadu player Abdul Asif secured the title, and in the Men’s Doubles, the Indian pair K. Srinivas and Abhijit won gold, while Prashanth and Sandeep won silver. In the Team events, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh finished in the top three positions in the Men’s category, while India, Maldives, and Sri Lanka secured the top three positions in the Women’s category.
Rohit Sharma Becomes the Fourth Indian to Cross 20,000 Runs in International Cricket
Rohit Sharma has become the fourth Indian cricketer and the 14th player in the world to score over 20,000 runs in international cricket. He reached this milestone after scoring 27 runs in a recent match. Other Indian players who have achieved this feat include Sachin Tendulkar with 34,357 runs, Virat Kohli with 27,910 runs, and Rahul Dravid with 24,064 runs. This achievement places Rohit among the top run-scorers in Indian cricket history across all formats.
