Nagaland Statehood Day – December 1
Nagaland became the 16th state of India on December 1, 1963, under the provisions of the State of Nagaland Act, 1962. The state was formed to provide a separate administrative and political identity to the Naga people. Kohima was declared the capital of the state, and English was adopted as the official language. P. Shilu Ao became the first Chief Minister of Nagaland. Every year, December 1 is observed as Nagaland Statehood Day to commemorate its formation.
World AIDS Day 2025 - December 1
World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1, established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1988 to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and support people living with the disease. The theme for 2025 is “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response,” which emphasizes the need for sustained political leadership, international cooperation, and human-rights-centred approaches to end AIDS by 2030. The Red Ribbon continues to symbolize global solidarity and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Belgium Wins Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2025
Belgium defeated India 1-0 in the final of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup held in Ipoh, Malaysia, to clinch the title. The winning goal was scored by Thibeau Stockbroekx in the 34th minute, which proved decisive for Belgium. This victory marked Belgium’s maiden Sultan Azlan Shah Cup title.
India Qualifies for AFC Under-17 Asian Cup 2026
India qualified for the AFC Under-17 Asian Cup 2026 after defeating Iran 2-1 in the qualifying match held at the EKA Arena in Ahmedabad. Amirreza Valipoor scored for Iran in the 19th minute, giving them an early lead, but India’s captain Dallalmuon Gangte equalised with a penalty goal in the 45+1 minute. The winning goal for India was scored by Gunleiba Wangheirakpam in the 52nd minute, securing India’s berth in the continental tournament.
Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly Win Syed Modi Super 300 Title
At the Syed Modi Super 300 International Badminton Tournament held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India’s Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly won the women’s doubles title. The Indian duo defeated the Japanese pair Shona Oyowa and Miya Lan, ranked world No. 35, by scores of 17-21, 21-13, and 21-15 in the final match. The Indian pair returned to competition after a gap of five months, with Gayatri Gopichand recovering from a shoulder injury. In the men’s singles category, Kidambi Srikanth finished runner-up, losing to Hong Kong’s Jon Hwang with scores of 16-21, 21-8, 20-22. Srikanth had last won a BWF title in 2017.
Rohit Sharma Sets World Record for Most Sixes in ODI Cricket
Rohit Sharma created a world record for hitting the most sixes in One Day International (ODI) cricket. He surpassed Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi, who previously held the top position with 351 sixes. Rohit, who was in second place with 349 sixes, moved to the top after hitting 352 sixes in a match against South Africa. He achieved this milestone in the 20th over and broke Afridi’s record in 100 fewer innings. Chris Gayle of the West Indies stands in third place with 331 sixes.
Virat Kohli Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI Record
In One Day International (ODI) cricket, Virat Kohli broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar for the most centuries scored. Kohli achieved his 52nd ODI century by scoring 135 runs, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record. This century came after a gap of 10 months, marking a major milestone in Kohli’s international cricket career.

Jammu and Kashmir Implements New Law Allowing 24x7 Business Operations
The Jammu and Kashmir government has implemented the Jammu and Kashmir Shops and Establishments Bill, 2025, which permits business establishments to operate 24 hours a day and seven days a week in the Union Territory. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary during a one-day conference in Jammu titled “Empowered Labour Force: Transforming Challenges into Opportunities.” The Bill, which was passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in October 2025, aims to promote economic revitalisation and enhance business activity across the region.
Population in Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands Projected to Rise by 2051
According to a national-level report released by the International Institute of Migration and Development (IIMAD) and the Population Foundation of India (PFI), the populations of Lakshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are projected to increase by 9.68% and 5.73%, respectively, by the year 2051. The population of Lakshadweep is expected to rise from 67,642 in 2016 to 74,194 in 2051, while the population of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is projected to increase from 3,98,310 to 4,21,135 during the same period. The projections were made in the report titled “Unravelling India’s Demographic Future: Population Projections for States and Union Territories 2021–2051”, using mathematical and logistic methods due to inconsistent demographic data in smaller regions. The study also used datasets from the Census, Sample Registration System (SRS), National Family Health Survey (NFHS), Civil Registration System (CRS), and the National Sample Survey (NSS).
India Emerges as a Key Power in Asia Power Index 2025
According to the Asia Power Index 2025 released by the Lowy Institute of Australia, India has emerged as a key power in Asia, ranking third with 40 points based on parameters such as economic strength, military power, diplomatic influence, and cultural relations. The United States topped the list with 80.5 points, followed by China with 73.7 points. In the category of countries developing economic prowess, India rose to first place, moving up from third position last year, overtaking Japan. The study also noted that India ranks 11th in areas such as cybersecurity, economic relations, and military information exchange. However, India has outperformed China in terms of foreign investment inflows. The top 10 countries in the 2025 index are United States, China, India, Japan, Russia, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

India Post Releases Stamp to Mark P. Obul Reddy’s Birth Centenary
India Post released a customised commemorative ‘My Stamp’ on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of industrialist and philanthropist P. Obul Reddy in Chennai. The stamp was unveiled by Major Manoj M., Director of Postal Services, Chennai Region, in the presence of Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder-Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group. P. Obul Reddy was known for his contribution to industry and culture, having established Indo National Ltd. (Nippo Batteries) through an Indo-Japanese collaboration with Matsushita (Panasonic) in 1972. He was also a noted patron of Indian classical arts. Members of the Apollo Hospitals Group and Obul Reddy’s family participated in the centenary celebration.

Pope Francis Visits Turkey’s Blue Mosque
Pope Francis visited the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 30, 2025, as part of his international visit to Turkey and Albania. This marked the first visit by Pope Francis to an Islamic place of worship since becoming Pope. The Blue Mosque, one of Turkey’s major religious landmarks, can accommodate 10,000 worshippers at a time. During his third day in Turkey, Pope Francis spent 20 minutes at the mosque complex before continuing his tour to Albania.

IIT Madras and PALS MoU for Entrepreneurship Development
IIT Madras and PALS (Pan IIT Alumni Leadership Series) jointly organized an Entrepreneurship Development Conference in Chennai on November 30, 2025. During the event, PALS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Intellectuals Academy to guide new-age entrepreneurs. PALS, a volunteer organization formed by alumni of various IITs, collaborates with 67 engineering colleges across India to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in engineering education. The conference aimed to strengthen industry–academia collaboration, foster innovation, and create future-ready professionals. Key representatives included Professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Chairman of Immerse Technology and Enterprises Lab, IIT Madras, and Dr. Chandar Venugopal, Vice President of Mahindra Innovation Department, along with PALS board members.
