Mistry Exits Tata Trusts Amid Internal Disputes
Mehli Mistry, the former trustee of Tata Trusts, who was voted out last week by a majority of trustees, has announced his decision to move on from the ongoing controversy.
The Tata Trusts are a network of philanthropic entities established by the Tata family. These trusts hold a majority stake in Tata Sons, which is the primary holding company of the Tata Group. The two main trusts are the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, which collectively hold around 50‑66% of Tata Sons' equity. The exact percentage may vary across different sources.
In October 2024, Tata Trusts decided to make the trustees of these two major trusts permanent (with lifetime tenure), as opposed to fixed terms.
Key Trustees of Tata Trusts:
Noel N. Tata – Chairman of Tata Trusts
Venu Srinivasan – Vice‐Chairman of Tata Trusts; also a board member of Tata Sons
Vijay Singh – Vice‐Chairman of Tata Trusts
Mehli Mistry – Trustee of Tata Trusts
Darius Khambata – Lawyer and trustee across the Trusts
Pramit Jhaveri & Jehangir H.C. Jehangir – Also trustees or associated with trust governance.
