JSW Energy Commissions India’s Largest Green Hydrogen Plant in Karnataka
JSW Energy has commissioned its first green hydrogen plant in Karnataka, marking a major step toward India’s clean-energy transition. The plant will supply green hydrogen to JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar facility for use in its low-carbon steel production process.
In a stock exchange filing, the company stated that this is India’s largest green hydrogen manufacturing unit, established under Phase I of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme.
Located adjacent to JSW Steel’s direct reduced iron (DRI) unit, the facility will play a key role in reducing carbon emissions in the steel industry — one of the country’s most energy-intensive sectors.

For 2025, the theme of National Ayurveda Day is “Ayurveda for People & Planet”. This theme focuses on using Ayurveda not just for human health but also to promote environmental sustainability.
World Tsunami Awareness Day – November 5
World Tsunami Awareness Day is observed on November 5 each year to raise awareness about the dangers of tsunamis, which are large waves caused by underwater disturbances like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or landslides.
The purpose of this day is to encourage nations to be prepared for tsunamis by improving early warning systems, educating the public, and developing safe infrastructure in coastal areas.
The United Nations declared this day in 2015 following Japan’s initiative, inspired by a story where a Japanese farmer burned rice sheaves to warn villagers about an approaching tsunami in 1854.
Even though tsunamis are rare, they can cause significant damage, and World Tsunami Awareness Day helps highlight the need for global cooperation and preparedness.
Theme for 2025:
The theme for World Tsunami Awareness Day 2025 is "Be Tsunami Ready: Invest in Tsunami Preparedness."

Tom Moody Appointed Global Director of Cricket for Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants, an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, has appointed former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody as its global director of cricket for the upcoming T20 league season.
The 60-year-old Moody has previously coached Sunrisers Hyderabad twice.
He left the franchise in 2022 when Brian Lara took over as head coach.

New Species of Jumping Spider Discovered in Chikkamagaluru by Researchers
A team of researchers studying the biodiversity of the Western Ghats has discovered a new species of spider belonging to the genus Philya in Madukundi village, located in the Mudigere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district. The new species has been named "Philya Malenadu," in honor of the place where it was discovered.
This discovery has been published in the international journal Jutax. It is significant because the last Philya species of spider was discovered 123 years ago (1902) in Kerala. There are several small species within the same genus.
The researchers are the first group to identify both male and female spiders of this species. Ajith Padiaar, a nature enthusiast working in Madukundi village, discovered 24 individuals of this new species, including 17 males, 3 females, and 4 juveniles.
Last year, in the same area, Padiaar discovered the rare Kunkumappu Reetaili, a species of flower that is exclusive to the Western Ghats.

Peru Cuts Diplomatic Ties with Mexico After Asylum Granted to Ex-Prime Minister
While former Prime Minister of Peru, Betsy Chávez, is under investigation in connection with an illegal coup, the Peruvian government has announced that it will sever diplomatic ties with Mexico, which had granted her asylum.
In a statement issued by the Peruvian presidential office, the Mexican government was accused of continuing to intervene in Peru's internal affairs.
In 2022, former President Pedro Castillo declared a state of emergency and attempted to dissolve the parliament.
Chávez is accused of participating in that failed attempt. To protect her from this case, Mexico's embassy granted her asylum.
Strengthening India-Israel Defence Ties: New Agreement Signed in Tel Aviv
In an effort to further strengthen the previous strong strategic cooperation between India and Israel, the two countries have signed a significant defense agreement.
This agreement paves the way for sharing advanced technologies between the two countries and enhancing the joint production of critical weapon systems and military equipment.
The agreement was signed following the India-Israel Security Cooperation meeting held in Tel Aviv, Israel.
"The India-Israel security relationship has been built on mutual trust and shared security interests and has continued for a long time. Based on this, the agreement aims to expand the defense cooperation between the two countries," stated the Ministry of Defense.
The current security cooperation initiatives were reviewed in the meeting, and both countries agreed that they would mutually benefit. Furthermore, possible areas for future technological cooperation and improvements in operational efficiency were discussed.

QS Rankings: IIT Madras Secures 70th Position in Asia
One of India's leading educational institutions, IIT Chennai, has secured the 70th position in Asia.
According to a report released by the UK's global higher education analysis firm, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), on Tuesday, IIT Delhi, IIT Chennai, IIT Mumbai, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Kharagpur are among the top 100 educational institutions in Asia.
In this list, seven Indian institutions feature among the top 100, 20 Indian institutions are ranked in the top 200, and 66 institutions are ranked in the top 500.
Compared to last year, 36 Indian educational institutions have improved their rankings. Sixteen institutions have remained steady, while 105 institutions have dropped in their rankings.
According to this year's rankings, India is ranked first in terms of the number of PhD-qualified faculty members.
Among Asia's top educational institutions, Hong Kong University has secured the first position, while Peking University is in second place. Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore in Singapore share the third position.
IIT Delhi is ranked 59th, IIT Chennai is ranked 70th, and IIT Mumbai is ranked 71st. IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur share the 77th position. Chandigarh University has improved by 111 positions, now ranked 262nd.

’Startup for All’ Center Inaugurated at IIT Madras to Foster Innovation
In order to assist private entrepreneurs and corporate stakeholders in creating new startup companies, IIT Chennai has launched the new 'Startup for All' center.
This center has been initiated in collaboration with the 'New Age Entrepreneurship and Risk Finance Research Center' (CREST) and the research center of the Port Company. It is designed to function in a way that benefits all sectors.
Through this center, entrepreneurs and investors will be able to access crucial information and effectively face challenges.
Currently, the platform includes over 275,000 innovative companies, 15,000 investors, 5,500 investment firms, 1,400 business accelerators, 800 banks, and 110 government schemes.
In this initiative, IIT Chennai’s support through the OYNOS lab has been integrated. The importance of disseminating key information widely to everyone has been emphasized. This effort is expected to benefit various sectors, including entrepreneurs and investors. In this global ranking, India is in the third position. The main objective of such new initiatives is to elevate the nation's economy to 5 trillion dollars, as stated by IIT.

Discovery of Rare Golden Jackals in Pichavaram Mangrove Forests
The Forest Department has discovered a significant population of rare golden jackals in the Pichavaram mangrove forests, located near Chidambaram in Cuddalore district.
The Pichavaram mangrove forest spans an area of 3,000 acres, consisting of backwaters and dense mangrove vegetation. Tourists can visit these areas by boat to explore the rich wildlife and natural beauty.
The Forest Department has reported a large population of otters and golden jackals inhabiting these mangrove forests. These animals feed on fish, crabs, and shrimp.
The golden jackals are often referred to as the "sanitation workers" of the forest, playing an important role in maintaining the ecosystem's health.
