Web-based flood forecasting system

⇢     Union Minister CR Patil has launched C-FLOOD, a web-based flood forecasting system at Shram Shakti Bhawan in New Delhi.

⇢     The system, executed under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), was jointly developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and the Central Water Commission (CWC).

⇢     The platform:

§  Uses advanced 2D hydrodynamic modelling to simulate flood scenarios

§  Provides flood forecasts up to the village level two days in advance using flood inundation maps and water level predictions.

⇢     It currently covers the Mahanadi, Godavari and Tapi river basins.
