Minimum Balance Amount: Bank of Baroda Removes It
Bank of Baroda, one of the leading public sector banks, has removed the requirement for customers to maintain a minimum balance in their savings accounts. A press release issued by the bank stated the following: The bank has stopped levying charges for failing to maintain the minimum balance in savings accounts. This waiver of charges for all regular savings accounts came into effect on July 1st. Henceforth, even if the monthly average balance is low, customers will not have to lose any amount for it. The press release has clarified that this does not apply to premium savings accounts.

ICC’s New CEO Sanjog Gupta
Indian media professional Sanjog Gupta was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Sanjog Gupta has taken over the position following the resignation of the incumbent, Australian Geoff Allardice, who stepped down in January for personal reasons.
He is the 7th Chief Executive Officer of the ICC.
For this position, more than 2,500 applications were received from a total of 25 countries. From those, 12 candidates were shortlisted, after which Sanjog Gupta was selected.
Carlsen is the Champion: 3rd Place for Gukesh - Super United Rapid & Blitz Chess tournament
In the SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz Chess tournament held in Croatia, World No. 1 player Magnus Carlsen of Norway won the championship title.
Wesley So of the USA and reigning World Champion D. Gukesh of India finished in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
The champion Carlsen received a cash prize of ₹34.36 lakh, second-placed Wesley So received ₹25.77 lakh, and third-placed Gukesh received ₹21.48 lakh.
Gold Cup Football: Mexico - Champion
In the Gold Cup football tournament organized by the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), Mexico defeated the USA 2-1 to become champions for the 10th time.
In the final match, Chris Richards scored a goal for the USA in the 4th minute, while Ronald Jiménez scored for Mexico in the 27th minute. With the game tied 1-1, both teams fought hard to take the lead. Mexico reaped the rewards first when Edson Álvarez scored a goal in the 77th minute. This gave Mexico a 2-1 lead. The USA’s goal attempts in the remaining time were thwarted, and Mexico ultimately won the match. This was the 18th season of the tournament, and Mexico has set a record by becoming champions for the 10th time.

Indian PM Modi meets with Malaysian Prime Minister & Cuba President in BRICS 2025
During the BRICS summit, Indian Prime Minister Modi met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim undertook a tour to India in August 2024. Following that, he held discussions with Prime Minister Modi regarding the enhancement of bilateral relations in sectors including trade, investment, defense, education, health, and tourism.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated Anwar Ibrahim on Malaysia assuming the chairmanship of the ASEAN bloc for the current year. Furthermore, PM Modi praised the steps taken to expedite the review of the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement. During the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, discussions were held on improving bilateral relations in sectors such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, Ayurveda and traditional medicine, digital payments, and disaster management,’ the statement said. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi met with Bolivian President Luis Alberto Arce Catacora and Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi and discussed further strengthening cooperation in key sectors between their respective countries and India.

Population Census: Digital Self-Enumeration Method Introduced for the First Time
Central government officials announced on Monday that for the 17th national population census, a new web portal will be introduced for citizens to self-register their data (self-enumeration). It is said that this will enable the census results to be released quickly.
While the 15th census was conducted in 2011, the central government began preparations for the 16th census on the 16th of last month. Accordingly, a pilot census combined with a housing census will be conducted from October 1, 2026, in sample areas within the states of Haryana, Chandigarh, Jharkhand, and the Union Territories of Lakshadweep and Jammu-Kashmir. In other parts of the country, this census will begin on February 1, 2027. Census in Two Phases: The census is planned to be conducted in two phases. The first phase will run from April 1, 2026, to February 1, 2027. The second phase is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2027.

Karnataka Government Decides to Ban Online Gambling
The Karnataka state government has decided to amend the Police Act to impose a ban on online gambling conducted in the state. The Karnataka government is planning to ban online gambling, which traps youth and school students in a vicious cycle under names like betting, gaming, and poker. For this purpose, it has decided to bring an amendment to the Police Act, 1963, in the next legislative assembly session. The government believes this legal amendment will help prevent attempts to lure people into gambling through any means such as money, virtual currency, or tokens. The government has prepared a draft bill in this regard. This amendment exempts games that are conducted based on skill, knowledge, training, and expertise. Engaging in online gambling will be considered a punishable offense. The draft law states that if the crime is proven, there is a possibility of imprisonment for up to 3 years and a fine of up to ₹1 lakh.

Poor Students’ Hostels to be Renamed as ‘Social Justice Hostels’
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued an order on Friday stating that school and college hostels for poor students in Tamil Nadu will henceforth be called by the common name ‘Samuganeethi Viduthi’ (Social Justice Hostel).
While improving the livelihood of students from underprivileged families across the state, we must also build an egalitarian society for our future. To achieve this, it is essential to eradicate caste and religious sentiments. With this objective, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to change the names of student hostels that currently operate under the names of caste and religious divisions. Accordingly, school and college hostels for poor students under various departments will henceforth be called by the common name ‘Samuganeethi Viduthi’ (Social Justice Hostel).
